Anticipation

It is known that there are five stages of grief. Denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance.

Yet what about the prelude to them all?

What about the years I have been grieving over someone as they grin gleefully in unawareness right next to me?

I feel as if the anxious anticipation of what will assuredly come is as painful as what inevitably will.
This overwhelming sense of dread must count for something right?

There must be a sixth stage to this sorrow.

Someday

Someday I won't be here
and I'll exist only in your
memory.

You'll be here, surviving,
picking up the pieces
of everything I left behind.

You'll remain stoic,
with your head held high,
as you remind yourself
to stay strong.

You'll be sad as grief
dehisces your delicate wounds
each time they begin to close.

But eventually you'll move on,
and that'll be okay...

Knowing we'll meet again
in the end someday.
