While your despondent eyes
were cast downward,
I glanced at you as you held my hand.
Solemnly you watched as your pale finger rhythmically rubbed the soft skin
alongside the base of my thumb.
Your gaunt stare immediately
imprinted itself into my mind,
haunting me as a witness
to pure hopelessness.
We sat there together if only for a moment...
My words stifled.
Your silence deafening.

Strangers
We met as strangers,
but once we learned
each other's names
the rest quickly followed.
All of our likes and dislikes...
the things that made us tick...
our dreams, our strengths,
our pasts, our pains...
We grew together,
but then we fell apart.
Now we will leave one another
the same way we once met.
Pulled
I think that by nature we gravitate to those who mirror our emotions. Those of us who are lost and grasping for comfort seem to be drawn to those also desperate for connection... Only to find our own condolences in the reassurance we give.
The Takedown
I look back and remember how carefully I placed all these photographs in these cheap Tjmaxx frames... Three pristine prints in complete symmetry. The glass left free of hairs... stubborn dust... and fingerprint smears... Hanging in perfect unison. But now... Now I can't even look at them long enough to take them down.
Conductor
If you controlled the train and I laid down on the tracks... Would you reach for the brakes? Or just sit back and relax?
Drowning
If I close my eyes and hold my breath,
I can imagine myself back besides you.
Within that moment I’m back
floating in your scent,
drowning in your touch,
and backstroking in your presence.
But as soon as I relax
and try to take a breath,
I’m sucked back into the present…
Once again left gasping for air.
Daydreaming
Like a flick of a switch she's gone. Desolate and lost in her own head. Quietly questioning... Compulsively contemplating... And savagely sifting... Through every last fragment in her mind.
Stained
Emotions remain
on the fabric
that held us...
Lonely stains
imprinted in a
cotton embrace...
Smothered
As we walked
the lantern broke...
And our flame
became darkness.
Pages
As I read my book you cross my mind... Causing the words to blur as the story becomes insignificant. And soon I'm left lost in the pages... Unable to focus on anything but you.
